Seahawk Baseball was the recipient of a $9,000.00 grant from the St. Joe Community Foundation.  The team will use the funds to purchase two pitching machines, some screens for the batting cage, and other equipment to help improve the baseball facility.  Accepting the donation are Athletic Director Phil Tisa, Adam Richards, Head Coach Nick Borthwick, Paul Stoppert, Hunter Crawley, Tyler Holland, Janet Greeno from St. Joe Community Foundation, Assistant Principal Jimmy Ross and Principal Dr. Alexis Tibbetts.  Thank you St. Joe! WDE second grade students explored the "CH" sound using play-doh. This is just one of the various multi-sensory strategies being implemented at WDE to teach language arts. Submitted by Jessica Dawkins.

International Day of Peace was celebrated at Butler Elementary School on September 21st.  All students created a pinwheel in art class which they “planted” on campus symbolizing “Whirled Peace”.  Classes discussed how they can help create peace in their classroom, home, community and the world.  This event is celebrated each year at Butler Elementary under the direction of Art Teacher Constance Rogers. Students at WDE are off to a great start in math! Teachers in second grade taught addition by using hundreds charts, base ten blocks, markers, and white boards.  Submitted by Jessica Dawkins.

Members of the Freeport High School Key Club braved the rain showers and participated in the Ocean Conservancy International Coastal Cleanup on Saturday, September 17th. Submitted by Patty Woodard.

5th grade students have been studying growth mindset and character traits that people need in order to be successful.
