WDE first graders had a great field trip to the Public Works Department in DeFuniak today! Students were able to learn about all of the different equipment used, and received their own work vest and hard hat. We finished off our day by enjoying a great picnic lunch at the park.

Best day ever! Thank you to the DeFuniak Springs Fire Department for allowing the WISE Center Pre-K students to visit with them on Wednesday, October 23rd. The children loved learning about how a Fire Department runs, especially the fire trucks! The day of fun was capped off with a visit to Harbeson Field for lunch and playtime on the playground equipment.

On Saturday, October 26, the Braves Marching Band competed in the Pea River Marching Band Classic in Elba, Alabama. The band received Straight Superior ratings in all captions and had the highest scores in Music, Visual, Effect and Percussion. They won the Class A 1st Place Trophy and with Finals getting rained out we placed 7th overall.

Boeing Electrical Engineer Ian Weaver visited Paxton High School’s aerospace career academy this week to speak with students about his career in engineering. One of 45,000 engineers at Boeing, he has worked much of his career in the development of the flight controls of the V-22 Osprey, a tiltrotor military aircraft capable of vertical and short takeoff and landing. A huge thank you to Mr. Weaver for taking time to share his expertise with our students!

The State Wide standards tour was hosted by the WCSD last evening at Walton High School. Chancellor Jacob Oliva and Vice Chancellor Paul Burns and the FLDOE members enlightened attendees on the direction of the new standards, and fielded questions from all who desired to share their thoughts as the state works towards dissolving Common Core as directed by Governor Ron Desantis. Over 100 attendees participated to include six(6) Panhandle Superintendents, Administrators, teachers, community members and students. Representing our WCSB Members are Jason Catalano and Marsha Winegarner. FES Principal Kristen Lewis and TSA Laurie Campbell are pictured with Superintendent Hughes.
