Christopher Lewis (12th grade), pictured with Spanish instructor Micah Trinidad, received the Seal of Biliteracy Award. The Seal of Biliteracy is an award given by a school in recognition of students who have studied and attained proficiency in two or more languages by high school graduation. Christopher completed three Spanish classes throughout his high school career. He is a Spanish competition team member and president of the Spanish club. Christopher is the first student from Paxton to receive this prestigious award. The entire Paxton family is very proud of this student's EPIC accomplishment. Submitted by Kalli McMillan

Congratulations to Zachary Magner from Walton High School for receiving a scholarship from Baptist College of Florida! Zachary was one of several students who attended the Baptist College of Florida Honor Choir Festival on March 14, 2019!

Congratulations to Eugene Hall (10th grade) for placing 8th in the 400-meter run and Ke'ontae Sanders for placing 5th in the triple jump at the track state tournament in Jacksonville. Way to go, boys!

Superintendent Hughes wore his jeans and “Food for Thought” hat to dig/harvest new potatoes at Paxton with the Agriculture Class where we have started the Farm to Table program in the WCSD! It’s on the menu for Thursday. “Thanks Mrs. McDaniel, Mrs. Neale and some of the best students in the world! What a joy it was to hang out in the garden with you all. EPIC2 for sure!!!!”

Congratulations to Mr. James Ross for his appointment to the position of Principal at Van R. Butler Elementary School, and to Ms. Crystal Appel for her appointment to the position of Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction for Walton County School District! The Walton County School Board voted to accept Superintendent Hughes recommendations for both positions at the May 7 School Board Meeting!

Mr. Ross has been at SWHS since 2011, serving 2 years as teacher on special assignment, then as Assistant Principal. He was recently selected as the 2019 Assistant Principal of the Year for WCSD. Mr. Ross will follow retiring principal Tammy Smith as the head administrator at Van R. Butler Elementary.

Ms. Crystal Appel served as a teacher in Walton County School District from 2005 to 2015, and Digital Learning Specialist in 2016. She joined the Curriculum and Instruction Department at the district office in 2016 as a Coordinator of Instructional Support. Ms. Appel will follow retiring Supervisor of Curriculum and Instruction, Kay Dailey.

Walton County School District is priviledged to have both of these dedicated and highly skilled leaders, and look forward to the positive impact they will make in their new positions!

Special Olympics provides year-round sports training and competition to children and adults 8 years of age and older with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Currently Special Olympics Florida - Walton offers 12 sports, and serves 67 athletes throughout Walton County.

Congratulations to Walton High’s Lady Braves softball team on their District Championship win (6-5) over Bay on May 2.  They are Class 5A District Champs for the fifth consecutive year!

Hannah King scored the winning run in the bottom of the 7th inning on a hit by Celeste Truett. Kyrstyn Head, Jenna Adams, and Sarah Earley all hit home runs to help lift the Braves to victory. Kyrstyn Head got the start in the circle and struck out eight Tornado batters.

The Lady Braves will play Tallahassee Godby at home in the regional quarterfinal game on Wednesday, May 8, at 6:00.
