During the March 7, 2017, Walton County School Board Meeting, School Board Member Kim Kirby and Superintendent Russell Hughes presented certificates to several Walton County teachers for being recognized by the Commissioner of Education, Pam Stewart, as some of the highest impact teachers in the state of Florida.

In honor of Read Across America Day (Dr. Seuss's birthday), Walton High's early childhood education class read Dr. Seuss books and completed activities with the students at the WISE center last week. Submitted by Christy English.

Students in Mrs. Watson's World Geography and AP Human Geography decided to "Adopt a Sailor" aboard the USS George H.W. Bush currently deployed in support of Operation Inherent Resolve. Students brought in snacks and toiletries to boost the moral of their sailors. The project will continue throughout the year. Mrs. Watson's son AZ2 Jameson Watson is currently assigned to the Tridents of Helicopter Sea Combat Squadron 9 and her students wanted to support him and his shipmates during their deployment. Art students from South Walton High School are honored to have their work exhibited for the third year at the Coastal Branch Library. The works selected for the exhibit were created in the Art I and the Art 2D Honors Pre AP classes, as well as in the students’ AP Art classes for 2D Design, 2D Photography, 3D Design, and Drawing. Works in the exhibit range from traditional drawings, design interpretations, and photographic works, to pieces where the students have taken varied approaches with deconstructions, work manipulations, and experimental media.

The students' Art teacher is Dr. Vivian Moreira Komando.

SWHS Art

Superintendent A. Russell Hughes visited the Wise Pre-K Center and read to the students in Mrs. McBroom’s class. The children were delighted with his reading of “Oh, The Places You’ll Go!”, a favorite by best loved author, cartoonist, animator and artist, Theodor Seuss Geisel, best known to the world as “Dr. Seuss.” Dr. Seuss’ birthday is March 2^nd, and is recognized across the county in schools, libraries, and community centers by bringing children, teens, adults and books together to celebrate literacy. All Walton County School District Students and Staff will be out for Spring Break the week of March 13-17, 2017. Students will have an early release day Thursday, March 9, 2017, and students will be out of school on Friday, March 10, 2017, due to a Teacher work day. Emerald Coast Middle School students received a visit from Canadian-born composer Matthew Whittall. Matthew works with Create To Escape, a distinguished multi-disciplinary artist residency hosted by the community of Seaside since 1993. Matthew writes in a wide variety of media including solo orchestral, choral and chamber. Matthew worked with 7th grade language arts students allowing them to listen to and enjoy an original piece of music he wrote. Students then created unique poems in reflection of the musical presentation. Submitted by Angela Vance/FB.

FHS Student, Case Woodard is the highest scoring basketball player in the county for the 2016-17 school year. During season play he scored 455 points with an average of 17.5 points per game.
